This month, we feature Children of the Universe participant Tamara Litke who is a science educator and program coordinator for the HR MacMillan Space Center in Vancouver. Recently, Sam King did an interview with Tamara entitled “From Stars to Soil: Cosmic Education in the Classroom” which we invite you to view HERE.
In this interview, Sam King speaks with Tamara about the portable planetarium she brings to Vancouver-area schools, which she refers to as a cosmic treasure chest. Tamara asks the essential questions: “Why are we in this state?" "How can we empower ourselves to move forward with a cosmic time frame?" She is also an advocate for looking deeply into the places where we live. Begin where you are standing – notice where the sun sets at different times of the year. What is the moon doing right now? These are simple ways of paying attention within our reach. As a Master Gardener, Tamara recognizes that gardening is an embodied cosmology in action. Tamara’s work is testimony to the recognition that we are part of the unfolding of the universe. We are not separate from nature. There’s a larger story at play. That spark of life is in me too!
Please also see a wonderful piece about Tamara’s work, “Educated by the Stars,” by Tom Krattenmaker HERE.
Tamara has a Master of Education in Sustainability and is a PhD Candidate in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies. She has worked with community gardens, school greenways and commercial projects. She has presented internationally and worked on Canadian resources for native plant nurseries. She is a board member of the Native Bee Society of BC, a Butterfly Ranger, and a Master Gardener, focusing on sustainable plants that benefit biodiversity and support a healthy climate.
